Thanks for your questions! (I'm sorry I rambled a bit in the reply.)
We do have a metaplot that we're going to be following, and a lot of that will tie into the missions and exploration outside of the barrier, although we're planning to hold off any MAJOR metaplot events for a couple months to let characters get their feet under them and to get the game rolling with some momentum - so you'll see seeds of where it's going, but we're not going to throw too much at characters in the first few months.
We're tentatively looking at a team-based approach for missions, where players will sign up their characters into randomized groups, and then be given specific tasks to try and complete during the exploration events. It's going to take us a few rounds to see if that format works for the players to enjoy and for us to run so it definitely could change later on, but team-based is how we'll be starting. The Mission Log post is where we'll be posting the current exploration missions (our goal is to run a few different teams with different goals during each event) and will also serve as an archive post for past missions and their outcomes.
Regarding non-mission events, and general tone/content of the game, we're also planning on having localized events that are lighter and that focus on things inside the city, or on the archipelago in general. Some of those are going to be on the sillier side (not pure crack since the modteam aren't particularly fans of game-breaking levels of weird, but just fun) and some are going to go into aspects of intrigue with the city's various factions, so a little more series, but not dire or anything.
Ultimately our goal is to have players be able to control how much of the metaplot and what aspects of it they want to delve into. If they have characters who are suited to the exploratory and investigative side of things, the more goal-oriented stuff, then they'll have plenty to do that's not just kicking around the city. But we also want to give characters who might not be from such action-oriented series something more to do than just slice of life parties and such.

Does this help?
