Frequently Asked Questions Here are some additional areas of information that players might need in order to fully take in the game! If you have any questions that are not covered by what's provided below, or if you need any clarification on things here (or anywhere on the game information pages), please don't hesitate to ask. Game Setting & Premise | NPC Interactions | OOC Mechanics | Game Legacy App FAQ: Character Eligibility | App FAQ: Player Roster Game Setting & Premise Khu Ioduan is a fantasy-centric roleplay game that focuses on both character and world building elements centered in the coastal city of Aifaran; also called The Seaglass City. Set in the world of Konryu, where everything is influenced by the three Planes of Life, Death and Dreaming. Characters are drawn from their worlds to the lush archipelago composed of ten young continent turtles, surrounded by a protective barrier that keeps the chaos of the planes at bay. While in Aifaran, they inherit and train in mystical talents, have the opportunity to navigate and rank up (or down!) with various game factions, and explore a planar-ravaged outside world to find resources and treasures. The game features has a little bit of everything - political intrigue, exploration, and lots of opportunities to grow your characters. The world of Khu Ioduan is not static - characters actions matter and can, potentially, have widespread effects. We strongly encourage characters to be involved and making changes (for good or ill) and the setting will offer many opportunities for player-run plots as well. What's happening at home? Based on precedent, and reports from other Dreamfolk who have been and gone, those who are in Aifaran will return to the moment they left. There's no need to worry, and this will be one of the things first impressed on any new Dreamfolk. What's with the magic tattoos? It seems like coming through the Dreaming leaves its mark on people, one way or another. Dreamfolk find strange marks on their bodies, twining little tattoos which, upon informal survey, appear to be related to the various Talents they acquire. There's certainly some sort of otherworldliness about the marks; some shimmer, some are strange temperatures, some are hard to see unless looked at sidelong, and so on. Regrettably, the most explanation the majority of people, even Dreamfolk, can give is a shrug. They are there; they aren't hurting anyone or anything; they aren't going away. Is everyone speaking the same language? Through the magic of dreams, everyone understands each other with minimal effort. This is sometimes interrupted when the Dreaming has moods, but for the most part written and spoken language are understood to those hearing them as though they were their own. For characters who are multilingual, it is possible with a little concentration to specifically communicate in one language over another. However, it takes some effort to overcome the Dreaming's natural inclination to facilitate communication. Are there familiar things my character could recognize? Aifaran is home to an amazing variety of exotic flora and fauna, and while some of them may seem familiar, others are completely new and exciting! There are a good number of things that have similar-to-Earth analogous counterparts in Aifaran, and Dreamfolk are always able to discover more. For example, there is a variant of chess that is played on a triangular board with three people, a sport that's a cross between cricket and tackle football, and a holiday similar to trick or treating at Halloween, except the kedan will give you jellied fish eyeballs and hair combs instead of candy. Many foods have likewise been discovered to have nearly-similar tastes, such as a blue and orange spotted melon that tastes like licorice, and a very popular herb that makes chocolate-flavoured tea. Just please, don't eat the sea prunes! Can my character die? Yes, but not permanently. It still won't be a pleasant experience, but if the situation comes to pass, your character will be down and out for 2-3 days. Eventually the Dreaming will bring them back, just as they were when they died. If your character has their own regenerative or resurrection capabilities, it will be left up to your discretion whether it's their abilities or the Dreaming which resurrects them. My character has a dying problem in canon. Can I make that not happen? Should your character require extra assistance such as medicine or esoteric food sources to survive in this strange new world, and you aren't certain how to manage it, please ask us and we'll drum up some possible solutions. Between the Dreaming and Aifaran's advancing technology, there shouldn't be a problem. What's stopping my character from traveling the world? The barrier surrounding the archipelago protects it from the chaos beyond, and while it is possible to move through it -- which feels like pushing through a heavy mat of cold sludge, so you'll definitely know if you're breaching its edge -- too many people breaching the barrier weaken it and put the entire population at risk. For Dreamfolk, their magic tattoo will begin to fade if they remain outside of the barrier for too long. This allows them to go out on escort missions, but Dreamfolk are advised not to depart for more than a few days, at most a week. What freedoms does my character have with regards to using the network (terminals/handsets)? Both the terminals and handsets provide easy access to the Lae Shunjai network, which support features like anonymous posting and encryptions. Both devices run on a unique type of coding language to this world, but if your character is technologically inclined, they can likely pick up the basics without too much trouble. A lot of new Dreamfolk test the waters by designing new games for the yimo handsets! If your character has less congenial intents, however, there are a couple things to keep in mind: your character cannot post from another's logged in account, and any digging into the source code of the devices (in ways that would change the actual way they run or handle communication traffic) require a special type of network account that can only be granted by the engineers at the Opara Core facility. Think of them like your IT admins! So even a really good hacker wouldn't be able to circumvent the basics of the network structure. On the OOC side of things, players should respect the marked level of encryption; private entries, even if not specified, are considered 'unhackable'. Can my character learn new abilities in-game in addition to Talents, even if they don't have magic/superpowers/etc in their own universe? Yes! There are a variety of ways characters, both powered and non, can gain new abilities in Khu Ioduan. Some Dreamfolks' magics can be taught to others, sometimes the Dreaming bestows unusual gifts upon people, and there are many strange artifacts that can be discovered that grant unique abilities to their owners. NPC Interactions With an enormous variety of native Konryu races and Dreamfolk that make up the archipelago's population, the game aims to give players some freedom and flexibility in handling NPCs their characters may encounter on a day-to-day basis. They can be found just about everywhere in the city, and in varying other locations on the archipelago. General interactions with these characters do not need mod oversight, you're welcome to have your character interact with them in conversations, transactions, etc. Just like player characters, NPCs have their own personalities, and we've tried to provide some general personality traits in the various race descriptions to help you shape the interactions. Please not that Chihuelans, including the Chihuelan Smugglers, are currently not available to be NPC'd by players at this time. If a player wants their character to meet with a smuggler directly, contact the mods and we'll be happy to set up a thread with you! CONTROLLING NPCS As a general rule, all players can control up to 10 Ioduese NPCs at a time, for whatever purposes they have need of. This doesn't include basic interactions, like buying something from a shopkeeper, or ordering a round of drinks from the bartender at the pub. This limit only comes into effect when your character would influence them, either directly or indirectly, to do something outside of their normal routines. So a pickpocket trying to swipe your wallet is going to try that regardless of whether your character is there or not -- you just happen to be the target! But a pickpocket that your character catches and forces to serve 100 hours of community service is now outside of their "usual" role, and that would count toward the ten NPC limit. This limit is also our rule of thumb for characters who force an NPC to do something against their will, whether through intimidation, magical means, brainwashing, etc. Bear in mind that this count isn't restricted to the same ten NPCs forever, just ten at any single given time. So if your character is capable of mind-controlling 50 people at a time at home, they will find that skill ~mysteriously~ reduced to only affect ten, no matter how hard they try. Sadly, you will not be able to amass an army to do your bidding. Note: This limitation is known OOCly only - should you be playing a character likely to recruit more than ten allies, then we recommend checking with the mods first. MOD MANAGED NPCS Attacking any of the named NPCs must be approved by and coordinated with the mods, as there are heavy in-character consequences for such actions. A few of the listed NPCs are the governing structure in Aifaran and unprovoked aggression is deeply frowned upon. Others may have no hand in ruling Aifaran, but consider it pretty darn rude to take potshots at their head! NPC DEATH Murder is allowed in game, but remember that in-character actions equate in-character consequences. If your character kills an NPC, there may be an investigation and punitive action may be taken depending on the circumstances, if your character is seen and reported. Note that not every NPC death needs to be cleared by the mods; we are working on an honour system, as we trust players to be realistic with this game mechanic. A stealthy character may get away with a few deaths without witnesses, but a megalomaniac shouting from the rooftops before hurling fireballs isn't going to get very far. If you intend for your character to kill ten or more NPCs, either in one go or cumulatively, it needs to be submitted and approved by the mods as a player plot before the murders happen. BUILDING AND PROPERTY DAMAGE Buildings are treated similarly to NPCs in Khu Ioduan. Minor buildings can be damaged or destroyed, but mod approval is needed for large-scale destruction (defined as three or more buildings) or the damaging of any major buildings. The rule of thumb is that any building detailed and named should be left alone without prior approval. If in doubt, please ask the mods beforehand! OOC Game Mechanics What's the passage of time in the game? It's a 1:1 ratio. Time passes in the game at the same rate as reality. How are posts tracked? For organizational purposes, all posts should be tagged with your character's name. Tags will be created for you in the network and log communities; please remember to use them. Posts without your character's tag will not be eligible for your AC. Is there a power limit? How are my characters powers restricted in game? For characters with few natural limitations on their abilities, the mods may choose to impose OOC restrictions on god-level powers, for the sake of allowing a level playing field and ensuring the game as a whole isn't overwhelmed. ICly, this is explained as the magic of the Dreaming interfering, to preserve the planes and conserve its own resources. Are you keeping track of my budget? What if I want to start a business? Generally, money in game runs on the honor system, and we ask only that you give your character's likely resources some thought and care. Game Legacy FAQ If some of this is sounding a touch familiar (how many games are set on the backs of giant turtles, after all?) don't worry, you're not Dreaming! Khu Ioduan's roots lie in the game ![]() While Khu Ioduan's setting is the same world as Tu Shanshu, and its history is consistent with that game, it is very much its own beast. As mods, we wanted to expand the setting, allowing players to explore at their pleasure. What do I need to know about the events of Tu Shanshu to join Khu Ioduan? Literally nothing! While Khu Ioduan is set in the same world as Tu Shanshu and therefore has the same high-level concepts like the 3 Planes (Life, Death and Dreaming) and the Great Turtles upon which the landmass sits, players do not need any knowledge of the previous game in order to be fully engaged. What about characters that were carried over? Tu Shanshu’s playerbase was given the option to transfer their characters over to Khu Ioduan. This may, initially, seem like these players will have a leg up on any new players with some having up to five and a half years worth of knowledge of that game. However, this is not the case. 566 in-game years have passed between the end of Tu Shanshu and the beginning of Khu Ioduan - any knowledge the characters from the original game may possess will be about as relevant to current events as a early Renaissance person’s would be in relation to current events in North America. In other words, things have changed. A lot. |
✽ APPLICATION FAQ | ||
Character Eligibility Khu Ioduan accepts the following types of characters, provided they meet the requirements as outlined below. If you have questions about whether your character can be played here, we urge you to contact the mods prior to writing the application. Canon Characters Characters from any type of publicly published canon are acceptable, including web comics, so long as they are accessible to the general public and are in English (or has a reasonable translation to English). For minor characters, the general rule of thumb is that the character should have been seen expressing at least three separate emotions (happiness, anger, and sadness represent a good spread). The key thing here is that the character's been shown experiencing and responding to different stimuli, and is not a one-note wonder. • Restrictions: A canon character must be no more than 50% headcanon in order to be appable as this type. Original Characters Characters written as part of a fully original universe. Canon OC/Fanon Characters Characters which are based in an existing canon, but are either a) original creations using only the framework of that particular canon for their background, or b) are minor but named characters that are being fleshed out, but would otherwise not qualify for the 50% headcanon rule. • Restrictions: Applications for canon OCs must not change the direction of the overall canon setting. For example, a canon OC set in the Matrix universe cannot be "The One" instead of Neo, but a fighter living in Zion would be fine. A canon OC who has a relationship with a canon character, can only be applied for if the relationship is canonically known to exist. CRAU/Game Import Characters which have previously been in another roleplay setting, and who are retaining their memories and/or any physical changes from that setting. These characters will be taken from these other worlds (or, if they've returned to their original worlds with those memories) and brought to Khu Ioduan via the Dreaming, like all characters. • Restrictions: CRAU characters cannot have been written as AUs in the game they are being taken from; they must have been brought to that game from their original universe. For example, Naruto being pulled into a universe where he was able to become a Pokemon trainer is acceptable. A game in which Naruto was written as having always been a Pokemon trainer would not qualify as a CRAU. Multiple canon forms, or different media versions For characters that have multiple canon forms, up to two canon forms will be allowed into Khu Ioduan at any one time. The versions must be different enough in their media origins that they are distinct characters from each other. Characters that have reached their in-game limits are noted at the bottom of the Taken page. Silent or malleable protagonists Examples of this character type would be Commander Shepard (Mass Effect), Dragonborn (Skyrim), the MC (Persona), etc. We do allow one version of a malleable protagonist from a canon to be played at any one time. Any application for such a character should outline as much of their 'path' as possible (such as whether they went the paragon or renegade route, any major outcome-altering decisions made, etc). Non-humanoid shaped and sized, inorganic/incorporeal Non-human characters like robots, animals and aliens are allowed. Applicants should be aware that sentient animals and and other creatures may have some challenges communicating with others and therefore meeting activity requirements, i.e. animal characters may not be able to make network posts, depending on their dexterity. Characters who are incorporeal (spirits, ghosts, etc) can be given a corporeal body upon their arrival if the player wishes; if the applicant wants them to remain incorporeal, their app will have to demonstrate how they can reasonably interact with the setting and with other characters under the Suitability section. Characters who are not typically-human-sized do not have to have their size altered upon arrival to Khu Ioduan. However, due to the likelihood of causing significant damage to their surroundings while in game, characters that exceed twenty feet in height or length will find their bodies have shrunk in the wash cycle that brought them to Aifaran (and you thought only socks were lost to the laundry). Character ages Characters who are considered minors can be apped so long as they are independent enough to function mostly on their own. A general rule of thumb is if they can survive a YA novel, they're old enough to be apped into game. If you have concerns about whether a character is old enough, please contact the mods! Deceased characters Characters who have died in their canon may be taken from their point of death, but no later. Partnered or possessed characters, canon multiple personalities Characters with a 'partner' for lack of a better term are appable, and in some circumstances will be counted as a single unit (thus taking only one character spot on your roster). If the 'partner' character is incapable of interacting with others save through the 'main' character (ie: Jaime Reyes and the Scarab, a Controller and a Yeerk, etc) then that's definitely permissible. If the 'partner' character is capable of acting and interacting independently, please contact the mods and we will review this on a case-by-case basis. A character who canonically has multiple personalities (such as Akito/Agito in Air Gear, etc) but who is the same character are not considered as separately appable. An application for a character falling into this category would be required to outline both personalities, if the player wished to have "both" of them making appearances in-game. However, a character like Yuugi, wherein Yami Yuugi was originally a separate person and is now merely co-inhabiting Yuugi's body, would be considered two distinct characters, and Yami Yuugi would arrive in his own separate body if apped. Characters with animal companions If the character you want to app has an animal companion of sorts, the animal has to be vital to your character's sanity, well-being, or life in order to arrive with your character. Animals that do not fit this criteria, such as pets, can always be requested in the same manner that an item can be, but cannot arrive with them. Ineligible Character Types • Alternate Universes, such as genderbends/Rule 63 characters, "road not taken" characters (a canon character extrapolated through non-canon events) or other variations. • Historical, mythological figures, or real life persons, unless there is an adaption of that person from a fictional canon. For example, Hades from Disney's Hercules is appable, but the actual Greek god Hades is not. • Parody or "crack" versions of canon characters, or versions of characters taken from fan-created universes (whether creator sanctioned or not). Headcanon and additional material supplements We accept the use of headcanon in applications of any character type, provided that it meets the following criteria: that is does not comprise more than 50% of the application, that it does not directly contradict established canon facts, and that is is clearly marked as such using a different text colour in the application. In addition, we welcome players to use supplemental material where it is from the same canon origins; for example, using a spin off comic to fill in backstory of a movie character whose history isn't elaborated in the film itself. Test Drive Memes Participation in our monthly test drive memes is not required in order to apply, however, we highly encourage it. You can find our most recent TDMs in the Meme community, as tagged here. Test drive threads may be used as your application sample, provided it meets the minimum of 5 comments by the character you are applying for. Reapplying after a declined application If you submitted an app and it was declined, either outright or after you submitted revisions, we ask that you wait two weeks before submitting a revised application. You do not need to do new samples if the decline was unrelated to the samples. Player Roster How many characters can I play here? Can I switch one out? Each player in Khu Ioduan may play up to three characters at any one time. Players who wish to play more than three characters must have mod approval prior to submitting the application, and must have passed the two most recent ACs with their full roster, not including hiatuses. Idling a character out of the game is considered to be failing AC for that character. Please note that the mods reserve the right to disallow additional characters to players who have demonstrated frequent inability to make AC with their existing roster. If you already have three characters and wish to "swap out" one, you can submit an application for the replacement character without dropping a character first. Clearly mark at the beginning of your application that this is a swap out and which character you will drop if the application is accepted. In a swap out situation, the previous character is considered dropped the as of the posting of the accept notice. Multiple characters from the same canon Each player may play up to two characters from a particular canon at a time. These two characters must have minimal or no interaction with one another in their canon. We approve multiple characters on a case-by-case basis; please get in touch with the mods for more information. Can I re-apply for a character that I previously played and have them retain their memories of Aifaran? Yes! The only stipulation to this is that the character's canon point must be the exact same as during their previous stay. Any change in the canon point will result in the character coming as a "clean slate" and having no recollection or development from their time at Khu Ioduan. This does not apply if you are applying for a character previously played by someone else. In such a case, the character will arrive as a "clean slate" regardless of similarities in the canon point. Can I submit the same application over again? If you are applying for a character that you played previously at Khu Ioduan, you must update their application to the newest app template (if applicable) before resubmitting. All character re-applications with the same canon point must have a new sample included that takes into account their experiences and development during their previous time in Aifaran. |
Worldbuilding and culture related questions
1. If a character comes with technology from their world – cellphone, tablet, or the like – is it conceivable that they could find a way to still access and recharge the item? Perhaps by bringing it to Opara and asking for an adapter?
2. Since the Kedan are shapeshifters, do they have some sort of identification? To be precise, how do you know the person you are talking to is who they say they are, if they can alter their appearance at will?
3. How is following multiple faiths viewed in general? Is broad interest and exploration accepted, or loyalty to one expected? (For example, someone appeasing to both the Spirits of Fortune and Kaka’i for a safe sea voyage.)
4. In TuShanshu, I seem to recall reading that firearms were rare. Is that still the case? (Mainly wondering what sort of weaponry is available for characters to purchase and carry.)
5. When characters arrive, how will they become aware they now have magic - and what that magic does? (Especially in regard to characters from mundane worlds, since they wouldn’t have a frame of reference for what magic feels like or how to use it.) Is it intuitive?
no subject
1. Characters will find that their electronics can be adapted with relative ease to charge off the terminals. Dreamfolk have been coming from multiple worlds for hundreds of years now, so the system is designed to be adaptable. The engineers at the Opara Core will take it as a challenge and happily work out something to keep those gadgets running.
2. There's no outward tell, although there is a medical procedure in the form of an injection that can temporarily make a kedan unable to shapeshift or hold an already assumed shape, although it's only used in legal situations where one's identity is in question, and therefore the substance is highly regulated to only law enforcement.
3. Multiple faiths are perfectly all right, and actually isn't uncommon at all in Aifaran! None of the generally practiced religions are particularly exclusionary, or have tenets that preclude following more than one. It wouldn't be unusual, for example, for a Sabonile priest to also have some spirit houses hanging outside their home. The only thing that would be frowned upon would be to outright disrespect the central figures of the various sects.
4. Firearms are not nearly as rare now! There are guns equivalent to some of what you'd find in modern Earth, although they are more along the lines of revolvers with individually loaded bullets than a pistol with an ammo cartridge. ON the legal side, people would have to apply for one and have a mandatory waiting period (a month) to attain one. On the illegal side of things, they can be purchased on the black market, but if a character gets caught with an unregistered firearm, the consequences can be quite serious!
5. It's well known that one of the things which happens to Dreamfolk when they arrive is that they inherit new abilities, even if they didn't have any before. However the actual discovery of how those activate, work, and a character's control over them is entirely up to the player. They could even choose not to believe what they're being told ("riiiiight, sure I can make thing appear out of nowhere") and then down the line have it happen unexpectedly. We're pretty free with the how part of this because people are going to want to play it out in different ways for different types of characters.

Your questions actually made us realize we're missing a few sections that should have been better detailed, like the medical structure of the city and more on the black market, so please stay tuned to this page for additional info on those.

Since this is a new game, I have a few generalised questions:
What sort of tone/content are you aiming for? Are you intending to run light-hearted shenanigans events, regular gritty conflict, etc? Are you intending an overarching metaplot to interact with, or a more sandboxy approach with colourful events?
I can see you have a mission log page thats locked, is that a place holder for a sort of event log with events being missions or for a character based missions system?
I realise this may change, it's just to help me gauge who I should reserve!
no subject
We do have a metaplot that we're going to be following, and a lot of that will tie into the missions and exploration outside of the barrier, although we're planning to hold off any MAJOR metaplot events for a couple months to let characters get their feet under them and to get the game rolling with some momentum - so you'll see seeds of where it's going, but we're not going to throw too much at characters in the first few months.
We're tentatively looking at a team-based approach for missions, where players will sign up their characters into randomized groups, and then be given specific tasks to try and complete during the exploration events. It's going to take us a few rounds to see if that format works for the players to enjoy and for us to run so it definitely could change later on, but team-based is how we'll be starting. The Mission Log post is where we'll be posting the current exploration missions (our goal is to run a few different teams with different goals during each event) and will also serve as an archive post for past missions and their outcomes.
Regarding non-mission events, and general tone/content of the game, we're also planning on having localized events that are lighter and that focus on things inside the city, or on the archipelago in general. Some of those are going to be on the sillier side (not pure crack since the modteam aren't particularly fans of game-breaking levels of weird, but just fun) and some are going to go into aspects of intrigue with the city's various factions, so a little more series, but not dire or anything.
Ultimately our goal is to have players be able to control how much of the metaplot and what aspects of it they want to delve into. If they have characters who are suited to the exploratory and investigative side of things, the more goal-oriented stuff, then they'll have plenty to do that's not just kicking around the city. But we also want to give characters who might not be from such action-oriented series something more to do than just slice of life parties and such.
Does this help?

Would they be left behind in his own world? Or could he keep at least one? I'm not married to the idea that he needs to have them, so I'm fine with whatever the answer will be. Though if he loses them all, would he have a chance to subdue some other creature to serve the same function?
no subject
While the present bestiary doesn't include any creatures sentient enough to enter into a contract with Enki, this will likely change in the future as more places and their inhabitants are revealed! Gaining a contract with these creatures would operate the same way as earning back his original shirei - with rewards. Hope that helps!

"Mostly incorporeal" means Ankh has a body but he's missing most of it. He's a forearm and hand that floats and somehow manages to speak. (See the crazy arm in the icon; outside of possessing someone, that's all he currently is.) He did at one point have a full body, so it seems hypothetically possible for him spontaneously grow the rest of it back here, but I'm not sure if that's how that works or not.
Alternately, he canonly makes up for the lack of a body by possessing someone (the guy in the picture). Shingo, his host, is usually unconscious; Ankh possessed him initially when he had passed out from injuries. That said, he canonly maintains some awareness of things that are going on around him, and occasionally wakes up for short periods of time, during which Ankh can't possess him until he either passes out again or Ankh knocks him out. Shingo is by no means a major character, and the incidents of him waking up are not often, but he is a character, so I'm not sure whether it would be acceptable to bring in a typically but not always unconscious host character along with my primary character.
What advice do you have for this scenario? It would be possible to pick a canon point that avoids the confusion, but I'd like to see if I can make this workable.
no subject
After discussion, we feel that it is all right for Ankh to arrive while possessing Shingo, as the two are so closely intertwined. We would ask that you include in the application a few of Shingo's main personality traits that might appear should he spend any time being "himself" if Ankh looses control of him, should you intend to have that periodically happen while in game.
If you have any other questions, please let us know!

And I apologize if I overlooked it in all of the informationSince Sera is a child, would a guardian of sorts be assigned to look after her? There was mention of adults being classified as such at the age of 18 so I'm curious about what possible restrictions there may be for her. Would there be prejudice towards her in getting a job, would she be encouraged to attend a school somewhere, etc.
no subject
Since Dreamfolk have been arriving for hundreds of years in Aifaran, a fair number of them will have been children - so while perhaps some employers could be wary, there will be just as many willing to give her the chance as long as she proves herself capable. The same would go for a guardian (whom you're welcome to NPC if you prefer to go that route). As for being encouraged toward schooling, definitely! But she also wouldn't be penalized if she elected not to attend.
That being said, she still wouldn't be classed as an adult in Aifaran for adult activities - bars likely wouldn't serve her alcohol, for example. Normal "adult only" things that would be consistent across worlds. You're still free to play with this a little bit, such as if she tricks or intimidates them into it, but we leave that to you as a player.

In GW2, necromancers arguably summon their undead minions from another plane of existence. The animation shows them materializing out of mid-air or popping out of a black hole in the ground, and they don't resemble classic skeletons at all (they look like golems made out of miscellaneous flesh and bone honestly, when they're not spooky-looking shades).
Would a necromancer still have access to whatever place they get their minions from in this setting? If not, would it be allowed for a necromancer to seek other ways to make minions, or is this just a case of 'not allowed entirely'?
no subject
We're fine with your necromancer character retaining the ability to summon minions while in-game! We would request that they have an upper limit (of say, 5 at a time) to prevent overpowering, but they could retain any normal abilities they'd have in their native world.
EDIT: As for seeking other ways to make minions from sources within the world of Konryu, that'd definitely be something we'd allow as a plot! It wouldn't be automatic, since the Dreaming interferes with some magics, but it could definitely be something your character could pursue if interested.

Characters who have died in their canon may be taken from their point of death, but no later.
one of the characters i'd consider playing did indeed die in canon, but almost the entire canon takes place after that death (and takes place in what is basically his afterlife); in that case, would the rule still apply in the same way, or could he be taken from a point later in canon?
no subject
We were more concerned with "character dies but somehow inexplicably manages to keep up with series events and people's lives for two years" etc etc.

I'm not certain if this guy, that I'm considering, is appable because of this. I have given him a headcanon name (he receives one at the end but it's never told to the reader) though. He's also from a very short canon (3 chapters out of 8 in a collection of oneshots are centered around him and another character) so even though he has both some personality and history, I'm unsure if he would be appable as a Canon or Fanon character, if he's appable despite his lack of known name.

1. Would a minor player like Kristen Kringle be welcome? She had a couple of major plot arcs but from my numbers only has about 6-8 months of canon over a season and a half (not counting Chelsea Spack's time as Isabella since that's a whole other mess canon wise).
2. Ivy Pepper (eventual Poison Ivy) is about to get her 3rd actress when the show returns from winter break next month due to plot related aging up. If she ends up being apped I would be using her second actress at least till the end of the current season. So how would the mess of the age ups need to be explained and once enough info is out there could she be changed into the incoming actress? Also trying to keep possible spoilers at bay with this question.
Hopefully this all makes sense! and TIA!

2. Ivy's age-up would be handled with a canon update via the Dreaming in which she'd come back older and with all her new canon memories. The only stipulation is that she isn't aged up to the point that she'd be unrecognizable to other characters. Switching to the icons of her new actress would also be fine!

1. Would they have any memory of dying or how they died?
2. Would they still, in a sense, be considered dead - or undead, rather - once they arrive as a Dreamfolk or have they been brought back to life?
no subject
1. Characters would retain all their memories up until their moment of death, including the circumstances surrounding it. That said, if you WANT your character not to remember, that's doable too, and ICly explained as the Dreaming mucking around with people during their arrival. Basically, either way is fine by us!
2. They would be brought to Aifaran in a fully living body, and the state of which is at player discretion - some players want theirs to arrive in a severely injured state, and some prefer to be whole or partially healed for extra confusion. We're good to roll with anything that makes you happy as a player :)

1. Is there a guild or union for performers in Aifaran? (I imagine the Dreaming Bridge serves as an overall union for Dreamfolk, but I'm wondering if there's a guild for the diverse entertainers in the city.) Basically, if one wants to break into the entertainment industry, is there an organization to help place new artists in suitable jobs?
2. In Tu Shanshu, non-canon magical items and weapons (called Special Items) were awarded as AC bonuses. Here, is acquisition of these things left to players' discretion? Or dependent on Affinity and current events? (Example: This week's Meta 5 or Search and Seizure auction.)

2. They're typically going to be given out as part of events or Affinity related activities, but if players are interested in acquiring them outside of that, such as through the black market, those can always be submitted as a player plot, etc.

Would I be able to bring him in without his legs or, as it is not explicitly stated in the movie that he survives, would I have to bring him from his "death"?

I have a question about CRAU/AU rules!
Where does
ETA: if it's relevant: my character had some major memories regained already, but not all of them! I'd be happy with either force regaining them all in the transition, or continuing to 'remember' bit by bit during a set period of time in game so it's less... intense. They were aware by that point that their 'life' was probably not real, even if that was hard to swallow, and the memories were. Mostly it's the CRAU I'm after + the coherence of magic/a modern setting that the fake-AU + game time gave them.
But obviously I do get that it's a weird loophole situation.

As long as the character has reached a point where they've understood the other life to be false and they've regained enough of their canon memories, we think it's fine to app in as a CRAU. (You're right, that's a very specific situation that we hadn't anticipated - definitely good you checked!)
Regarding regaining the still-missing memories, we're also fine if you want to continue playing out their recovery, with the stipulation that any memories which would affect a drastic personality shift - like finding out they're actually a cold blooded murderer or something, idk - be "injected" during the arrival process.
Does that work for you?

Would this be plausible to have the scientists create in a reasonably short period of time? It's not a "vital to the character functioning" sort of seriousness, but it might make things a bit weird for them if their powder disappears and will likely become an issue if there's any underwater-y plots or heavy rainy weather.

A friend and I would like to app CRAUs of two Dragon Age characters. The game they are coming from has had a long-running plot that has advanced both characters greatly. Both Nathaniel and Anders are Grey Wardens, and so they have the darkspawn taint in their blood. This means they have limited time to live, and in Nathaniel's case, it has been established in the game they are being pulled from that he only has a few years left. Anders has been looking for a cure for the darkspawn taint, wanting to leave the Wardens for good as well as to save Nathaniel's life. This both is and isn't an illness--it's a toxin that causes illness and death in others, but this variation of it is something Grey Wardens voluntarily commit themselves to in order to serve the greater good. Like a vaccine that will eventually give you the disease. Nonetheless, if all goes splendidly and Nathaniel is in this game for another three years, it'll become relevant. Is the technology of this setting going to possess some way of delaying the taint's progression, or of curing it altogether?

I'd like Rutile to break into lapidary, a craft they're already quite familiar with. They're limited not by tools or skill, but rather by resources. Thus my question is twofold:
1. What kinds of stones would Rutile be able to find around and outside Aifaran? (I don't need a comprehensive list - just a 'x rarity', 'y temperament' will do, and I'm happy to provide examples if that's helpful. Many types of quartz, for example, are very common, and can be found in most climates; some are considered semi-precious.)
2. Of those, which do Aifaran citizens consider semi/precious? Rutile and the Fool will eventually intend to go into business together (we're still playing out the details), and I'd like it to take Rutile some time to realize which stones will go faster and for more rhinn than others. (These may also correlate with being more difficult to find.)
Thank you!

1. Most of the stones in Aifaran or the settled area around it will have been brought from the continents where the native races previously inhabited, or have been seeded during the rapid terraforming process used to make the archipelago inhabitable in a very short period of time. Silicates such as quartz will be the most common, though they won't be known by that name. Calcites are also very common, as a large amount of calcium can be found in the shells of the continent turtles. Mica flakes can be found almost everywhere they look. Turquoise is strangely abundant, so much so that it's often incorporated into many mosaics around the city and is considerably easy to find even just out hiking. It's harder than Earth-standard turquoise, which makes it good for building decoration. If Rutile were to explore any caves, a few of which can be found in a day's' journey out of Aifaran, the caves will have large quantities of selenite buildup. Some rarer stones include a variety of Alexandrite, all colors of beryl, and Tanzanite.
In their search, Rutile may stumble across a strange formation of crystals at the edge of a stream, in an overhang. Upon inspection, they would appear to be a type of perfectly clear calcite. This calcite has unique properties: in addition to refracting light in unexpected ways, it can also reveal anomalies in the Dreaming plane. These would appear as thin spots, shimmering spots like the surface of a soap bubble, or small tears (especially outside the barrier).
2. As mentioned, turquoise is favored for mosaics and is one of the favored stones for decorations if the artist is looking for something blue. The rare stones mentioned above are more commonly brought from the other continents in Konryu, so when they are found natively in the archipelago they are highly prized. The clear calcite is known but is exceedingly rare; no one can figure out why it forms. It seems to appear with the whim of the Dreaming, and while it would fetch a high price in its raw form, it is not favored for jewelry or decorative pieces. Pearls can be harvested from local molluscs and come in a wide variety of colors, which makes them popular for jewelry and decorative pieces. Pale pink and orange stones, such as granite and rhodochrosite are also popular. While not a stone, pink and orange shells that are processed to retain their color and form tiles are often used in building decoration as well, but the processing can be very expensive.

educate yourself!!
If so, what kinds of things could they study, and what's the general process of making that happen?
and how much does it cost? Thanks in advance!

The Academy can also take into account previous learning done in one's homeworld. A character can take aptitude exams to determine their knowledge or experience and this would allow them to skip prerequisites (within reason). There are undergraduate and graduate level courses, though most Dreamfolk will be directed towards undergraduate level work. They won't be prevented from pursuing a graduate level certificate or degree unless they would be seriously out of their depth.
The Academy offers a wide range of courses, such as mathematics, engineering, chemistry, and other sciences. These tend to be more familiar to most Dreamfolk, with many of the same foundations, laws, and principles. Liberal arts, the study of history and archaeology, theology, and so on, would be hard for Dreamfolk to complete degrees in without having grown up in Konryu. Certificates or single courses would be better here. Metaphysics is a wide area of study, with lots of options to explore but simultaneously a large learning curve and a lot of uncertainty.
The Academy also has strong vocational programs. The archipelago requires careful management, and much of the research produced at the schools is related to maintaining or improving sustainability atop the great turtles. Students can learn about sustainable farming; turtle health; animal husbandry; management of forests, coasts, freshwater, infrastructure, and more.
Anyone interested in attending the Academy can visit the Office of Student Affairs to apply. Counselors will be there to help advise applicants on their options and guide them through the process, including any testing they may need to take. The Academy is designed to be as accessible as possible and offers financial aid specifically set aside for Dreamfolk. Costs wouldn't be prohibitive, and in certain cases a Dreamfolk might be able to offer the Academy something other than money to pay their way: information related to current research, work study, application of relevant magic or Talents, etc. In general terms, a student would probably pay 6-8 cobalt rhinn a month (about $600-$800) for full-time education.
