✽ CANON UPDATES | ||
Updating A Character If you are looking for a canon update or to give your character a canon possession, you’ve come to the right place! Canon updates and possessions may be completed at will, and do not require the expenditure of AC points. For housekeeping purposes, and to ensure that updates and items remain game-suitable, the mod team still requires an OOC notification of the change. CONSIDERATIONS There are some important things to consider when canon updating your character. Canon updates may be voluntary or involuntary - that is, a player may canon update a character who would not do so voluntarily themselves. This canon-update system does not, unfortunately, allow for characters to return with items from their new canon point, due to the nature of how the update progresses. Since they are not actually sent home, but are simply viewing it as if they were present, characters aren't able to update their items during this process, but the connection between the Dreaming and their worlds is strong enough that the memories will feel real, and physical changes will reflect on their bodies in Aifaran. IN CHARACTER ICly, canon updates occur by communing with the turtles that compose the archipelago. If done voluntarily, this is most easily accomplished by visiting one of the turtle's heads. Although still young, the continent turtles are vast both in size and spirit, and visitors will sense the wellspring of life and energy especially strongly there. Through meditation, a character may access the Dreaming so they can experience their canon. If a character experiences an update involuntarily, there are a few IC explanations that will be offered by planar experts. The young continent turtles do not necessarily have the same control and skill interacting with the Dreaming as Tu Vishan did, as evidence by how their moods sometimes have drastic impacts on the Life Plane, and a Dreamfolk may have slipped through as they slept. Although the barrier protects Aifaran and the archipelago, there may also be eddies that emerge where the Life and Dreaming planes are tightly intertwined, pulling in those around it before it vanishes. These and other theories are the subject of some study by the Metaphysics Faction, so your character's account of the incident may be in high demand! Because of the unpredictable movement of time in the Dreaming and in relation to the Life Plane, characters may be 'gone' ICly for varying periods of time, regardless of how far forward they progress in canon. They may return in as little as a few minutes or in as many as a few days. OOCly, this is at the discretion of the player. ✽ CANON POSSESSIONS | ||
Regaining A Canon Item So, you'd like your character to regain some of their canon possessions! These items can be anything, from aspects of their superhero life (would you like Tony Stark to be upgraded to the Mark 6 armor?) to sentimental bits and bobs from home (a picture or trinket belonging to a loved one, etc) to pets or other non-appable companions. Characters may receive either one large item or two small items from their canon per request. There is no ACP expenditure required to receive a canon possession. LARGE ITEM REQUESTS Large items are defined as vehicles, firearms, items of significant power, or large pets - anything that would be noticed in Aifaran and/or grant your character an extra measure of magical competence in any field. If you're requesting a large item, then the item should be something of importance and canonically indicated to be possessed by or strongly associated with that character. Examples of this include a Green Lantern's specific power battery, a pet or similar companion associated specifically with that character (such as Naga for Korra), or weapons/armor that the character is stated to have/is seen in possession of during their canon material. The item should not break the game or plot mechanics as established thus far, nor provide a simple answer to major conflicts. Examples of this would be any such deus ex machina item that provides a simple wrap-up to complicated issues (see: the genie lamp in Aladdin solving the Jafar problem with an itty-bitty living space). SMALL ITEM REQUESTS Small items are defined as items of minor consequence that are relatively associated with or of interest to the character as established in canon. Examples of this include ambrosia for the demigods, favourite foods, books, or trinkets. Making A Request Characters may receive these items ICly as soon as players submit an update notification. Once submitted, characters may discover the items anywhere in Aifaran, but most typically they can be found in one of the markets for sale at a reasonable price. Item Received: the sword Caladbolg (broken)

Caladbolg is a living magical greatsword gifted to Trahearne by the Pale Tree, which he used up until his death. As part of a personal plot I'll be running for him, I'd like for Caladbolg to arrive in its broken and powerless state, to be reforged and restored to full power at some point in the future.
In combat, Caladbolg is shown to be capable of flinging lightning and projectiles of magical energy in addition to its other attacks. However, its greatest power comes from simply possessing it - anyone who wields Caladbolg will find their strengths and flaws both enhanced, such as turning a brave person into a paragon and someone sensitive to fear into a coward. (This doesn't seem to have a large effect in GW2 so I'm going with the assumption that this benefit is subtle). Being a thorn taken from the Pale Tree, Caladbolg also contains a large amount of magic itself. Trahearne successfully used it to cleanse dragon corruption from an entire peninsula, which is no small feat, even if it did involve finding the exact correct location and a short ritual.
Re: Canon Possession Request
We'd like to offer two options for recovering Caladbolg: Trahearne can find the broken pieces of the sword in the same location and wait a period of time to find someone who can adequately repair it, or Trahearne can spend time explicitly finding the pieces of it (allowing for potential plot interaction with other players, if you'd like), and we will consider the time spent finding them to also be spent finding a way to repair it.
Regardless of the path taken, once repaired Caladbolg must function within the game's restrictions as far as the amount of magic it holds and what it can influence. Given its previous use to cleanse dragon corruption, Konryu's closest equivalent is likely to be the influence of the Death plane beyond the barrier protecting the archipelago. Circumstantial incidents within the barrier are also, of course, possible! As you know Caladbolg best, we would welcome input on restrictions to Caladbolg's power that you would deem appropriate.

I honestly wasn't expecting that aspect of Caladbolg to have any sort of easy equivalent in this game. It was still difficult to cleanse Orr, setting aside Caladbolg's abilities, and I wouldn't want him to be able to wave the sword around and instantly make something happen. I'd be fine with Caladbolg simply not being able to cleanse anything in Konryu, though I'd like for the sword to still be magical in general as outlined through its other abilities.
