✽ APPLICATIONS | ||||||
Application Cycles While we do not require a reserve to be placed in order to be applied for, if a reserve for the same character exists, you will not be able to submit an application for that character (unless it is a variant media type - see the Application FAQ for details). Therefore, a reserve is highly recommended! APP PROCESSING TIMES The usual time frame for app processing will be 48 hours after the app is received. High app volume or any extenuating real life circumstances may delay these times, but the modteam will make the utmost effort to let people know about the delay and a revised time frame when applicable. GUIDELINES Any player (new or current) may submit up to 2 applications at once. Applications will be responded to with either: Accepted, Revisions or Declined. Acceptance comments will have all the information you need to join the game and introduce yourself and your character, Revision comments will outline the changes we will need to see, and Declined comments will include our issues with the application. Please run the application through a basic spelling, grammar, and formatting check prior to submission. The mods reserve the right to reject an application that is too difficult to make sense of due to any of these areas. Apps may be submitted either in the comments or in a link to a different journal; post the application to this page as a new comment with the following information in the subject line: Character Name | Canon | Reserved/Not Reserved. Please note that we do not accept challenge reserves or challenge apps. Application Template • Player Information • Name: your handle; something to call you Pronouns: Please share your pronouns if you are comfortable doing so. This field is OPTIONAL. Age/18+?: we do require that players be 18 years of age or older. Beyond that, we aren’t particular. Contact: The easiest way to get a hold of you. Many people use plurk, but it isn’t required; all we need is a method of contact to which you typically respond to within 24 hours. Other Characters Played: Any other characters you have at Khu Ioduan. Most Recent AC Link: If you're new, just leave this blank. • Character Information • Name: Their name and any aliases, if applicable Pronouns: Please share the character's pronouns if you are comfortable doing so. This field is OPTIONAL. Canon: Canon name and media type Canon Point: What pull point are you taking them from? Age: Physical and apparent, if they differ significantly Type of Character: Canon, Canon OC, OC, or CRAU Reference: Links to the best references for your canon. Canon wikis preferred. If OC, use this space to tell us a bit about your character’s story and setting conceits, since we won’t have any other references. Personality: The most important section; should be the bulk of the application. Examine the character's motivations, their strengths and flaws, and how they interact with friend and foe, and their world. Appearance: A short description or a link to an image will do. This doesn’t need to be exhaustive. Abilities: What skills or strengths do they have, either both extraordinary abilities and/or notable non-magical ones. Please note that game-breaking abilities may need to be limited, and that abilities which affect other characters against their will (like mind control) will require permissions posts. Suitability: Give us an idea of how best you think your character suits the setting. For example: How will your character handle being in Aifaran? What kind of plots are you interested in pursuing with them? What sort of organizations would you like them to get involved? Do you want them involved in big, overarching stories or are you more interested in slice of life or exploration? Inventory: Are they bringing any special items that they had on them at their pull point? If so, tell us about them. Talent Preferences: What are your (the player) top three choices for Talent schools: Alteration, Conjuration, Destruction, Illusion, or Restoration. Please list them in order of preference. • Writing Sample • Minimum 300 Words We require one sample for an application, and it must be set in-game. This can be structured either as an in-person interaction (whether prose or brackets), or as a network post. Keep in mind that regardless of the formatting, we are looking for a character's introspections, thought processes and reactions to stimuli, and the sample must contain a minimum of 5 dialogue sentences (whether written or typed). This is how we get a feel for your grasp of the character's voice! You may use a link to a Khu Ioduan test drive meme thread, provided it has at least 5 comments from your character. Additional Character Types If you are applying for either a CRAU or Canon OC character, please add the respective field to the bottom of your application. This is not necessary for canon characters or original universe characters.

Era's inventory will be reduced using your suggestions. She can keep her weapons (and her lyre), armour, clothes, glamour plates, and wind-up toys.
Regarding her abilities, we would like you to pick a main class for Era along with the cross-class abilities the main would have access to (though not the full extent of those sub-class abilities). In this vein, we'd like to offer you the option of 1-3 Soul Crystals remaining in her inventory, with the potential to recover more in the future. Let us know which job classes you will choose.
She will require an opt-in permissions post for The Echo, to be hosted and available for player comment on her journal. If the glamour plates can be counteracted by other characters in some way, they will also need permissions. Please provide this link as well as links to your character's IC inbox and optional information post when you respond to the Taken Characters list, explained below.
AFFINITY: Your character's randomized starting ranks for all seven Affinity areas have been added to the tracking spreadsheet! Be sure to bookmark the link for future reference, since Affinity will be part of your Activity Checks.
TALENT: Upon arrival in Aifaran, Era has received an ability from the school of Illusion! She will find this image somewhere on their body in a location of your choice, and you're free to decide how your character discovers the specifics of their new power: Ghost Speech! You can make voices sound different, or change the perception of certain sounds.
Level 1 Skill: You can make your voice (or any sound that you can normally make vocally) seem to issue from someplace else in a 30 ft radius.
ARRIVAL, HOUSING & NETWORK ACCESS:
Your character will appear somewhere within the city of Aifaran, as it is the concentrated center of the archipelago's power. They should be able to easily find their way to the Dreaming Bridge, since Dreamfolk arriving clueless and confused is a regular occurrence here! Once there, your character has been assigned to the Breakwater Wing in Room 06 and can get settled in. The Dreaming Bridge also provides characters with a basic stipend of various necessities and a small allowance of funds (around the equivalent of $50 worth), since meals are provided at the Bridge for all residents (although it's basically cafeteria food). If your character has any special needs (dietary, mobility, etc), the staff will help them with these requests.
An Opara Core technician on-site will also provide them with their network login information, and will help them with some basic tutorials if they seem unfamiliar with this style of technology. They'll also be issued a mobile handset (a "yimo") at this time and shown how to charge it off the stationary terminals. Remember that your character won't have access to the network without getting a login, so while they may have been able to view some other people's broadcasts, they won't be able to reply or make their own until they've gotten their own login.
To officially become part of the game, please complete the following steps:
JOINING:
1. Reply to this comment with your character's journal name, even if you used it to post the application; your character journal will not be added to the comms before you have done this step.
khuioduan,
ioduanlogs, and
ioduanooc with that journal, and optionally our meme comm at
archishellago. The game plurk is
khuioduan, and you can also hang out with us on Discord by using this link!
2. Join
3. Go to the Taken Characters page and complete the New Character Addition form. Remember to create an IC inbox entry if you haven't already, and you may link to a permissions post for your character, which is optional (but encouraged) unless a permissions post was a stipulation of this acceptance, noted above.
Specific tags have been created in the Network and Logs communities for when you post and tag posts with your character. Once you've completed these steps, feel free to introduce yourself in the OOC community and dive into the game! If you have any questions, please let us know and we will be glad to assist.

Her main base class will be arcanist, and the role skills she has are the same as what's available for all ranged magical DPS classes (seen here)
Soul Crystals: Soul of the Dark Knight, Soul of the Scholar, and Soul of the Dragoon.
She will be inquiring as to the safety of the rest of them, and I would like to know what IC answer she will get since it would impact her behaviour somewhat depending on what it is.
I do also want to make sure — she wouldn't lose her other base class skills/abilities that require no soul crystals, would she? They just require the training and proper conduit. Basically the stuff that anyone in Eorzea can learn with the effort.
Thanks!

As fare as inquiries go, she'll be told sometimes items don't make it across the Dreaming, though it is possible they may turn up at a later date. She will be able to keep base-class abilities!

Though I did come up with a conundrum — Astrologian and Machinist. Sorry for incoming tl;dr! I hadn't prepared for this since I hadn't considered Astro without Soul Crystal before.
In the game there is no base class for either of these jobs. For MCH I'm just going to ignore it since I've literally never RPed Era doing anything with that job (the MCH soul crystal is actually empty - the Warrior of Light is the first one using it, so it's an exception to the ability rule in that sense) but for AST it's a healing job, which is her truest affinity and thus she uses frequently.
Astrologian uses a magical card deck that's kind of like an actual tarot deck. It's used to predict possible futures and prepare accordingly, blah blah. But it wouldn't make sense for her to lose all access to every single ability without her soul crystal around.
I was thinking half-strength basic spells that don't involve the astrologian's cards, with the possible opportunity to boost it back up a bit over time by studying the stars in-game. For the cards... Without her soul stone, just have the cards never be the one she's looking for or needs in that moment. If she tries to put a card aside in her spread for later it just disappears rather than saves. She can't augment her current card by using Royal Road (so no increased duration, potency, or AoE range). Sometimes they are half the potency or half the duration for no reason at all. All her 'tarot' readings will be horrendously inaccurate, etc.
'Don't make it across the Dreaming'. Would she be informed that means they are safe? Even hearing that time doesn't move on back home while in Khu Ioduan Era will be weary of that, so would seek the extra reassurance. As for the other possibility, I do hope lost & found posters are a thing that can happen. 8')
(Again, I'm sorry for the many questions!)

She'll be told if the items were safe on her in her world, she can expect them to remain so as long as she's in Aifaran. If that's not enough to put her mind at ease, lost and found posters would be fine!
We're also okay with the above suggestions. Like we said before, Era can regain items and abilities later on.
